INVITATION & REGULATIONS
1. Invitation
This is the official invitation to all National Chess Federations of FIDE and eligible players to participate in the 4th FIDE World Cadet U8, U10, U12 & the 4th FIDE World Youth U14, U16, U18 Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships. In total, twenty-four (24) championship titles will be awarded in all categories:

The dates are from 12 April (arrivals) to 16 April 2020 (departures) and the host venue is the 5-star Aldemar Knossos Royal Resort in Hersonissos, Crete.
2. Participation
2.1 Entitled to participate are chess players from National Chess Federations, according to their age category:
· Tournaments Under 08 (Open & Girls), player’s date of birth: 1 January 2012 and after
· Tournaments Under 10 (Open & Girls), player’s date of birth: 1 January 2010 and after
· Tournaments Under 12 (Open & Girls), player’s date of birth: 1 January 2008 and after
· Tournaments Under 14 (Open & Girls), player’s date of birth: 1 January 2006 and after
· Tournaments Under 16 (Open & Girls), player’s date of birth: 1 January 2004 and after
· Tournaments Under 18 (Open & Girls), player’s date of birth: 1 January 2002 and after
2.2 Each National Federation can register any number of players that meet the age requirements of each section.
2.3 According to FIDE regulations, the participants are accommodated by the Organizer in the official hotel. Access to playing areas and venues will be allowed only to persons accredited by the Organizer.
3. Technical regulations, time control and tie-breaking system
The tournaments will be played using the Swiss System with 9 rounds. If a player does not have an existing FIDE rapid or blitz rating, then his/her classical rating will be used, where applicable.
The time control for the rapid championships will be 10 minutes plus 5 seconds per move increment from white’s first move. The time control for the blitz championships will be 5 minutes plus 2 seconds per move increment from white’s first move.
Tie break criteria:
a) the direct game/s between the tied players (only if all tied have played each other), b) buchholz cut 1, c) buchholz, d) the greater number of games with black (unplayed games count as played with white), e) the greater number of wins.
4. Registration deadline
All players, accompanying persons and delegation members have to register through their national federations before the deadline of 17th February 2020, together with a 30% deposit payment of the registration-accommodation package described below in article (5). After the deadline, a late registration fee of 50 euros per participant may be required.
The complete registration form of each delegation should be sent by the national federation, or have its approval, and must include the surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating, dates of arrival/departure and passport number (for visa only purpose) of each player, each accompanying person and each delegation member where applicable. It must also include clearly the name, telephone and e-mail of the Chief of Delegation who must be an adult.
Registrations and bookings for the Championships are possible only through the appointed local Organizer and only by email: registrations@crete2020.org
5. Travel Details
Participants should book their flights to Heraklion International Airport (HER). The bus transportation from and to Heraklion International Airport airport is included in the organisation fees for all participants on the arrival day (12 April 2020) and the departure day (16 April 2020). The distance from Heraklion International Airport (HER) to the hotel venue (5-star Aldemar Knossos Royal Hotel) is 23 km and approximately 45’ in traffic time. Transportation from the organizers in other dates are possible upon request with an extra charge.
6. Registration - Accommodation
6.1 Each participant / coach / accompanying person pays a registration fee of 100 € (euros) at the moment of their registration by 17 February 2020. This registration fee is compulsory and represents a confirmation of participation, otherwise a registration will be invalid and will not be accepted. This payment includes transportation from and to Heraklion International airport (IATA code HER), accreditation, identification badges and organization costs. The transportation is available for 12 April (arrival) and 16 April (departure). Special group requests for other dates shall be sent beforehand to the Organizing Committee.
PS: Any participant who has already paid the registration fee for the European School Championships 2020 or the World Amateur Championships 2020 (held immediately before from 2 to 12 April), will not pay a registration fee for the World Youth Blitz/Rapid Championships.
6.2 OFFICIAL HOTEL: 5-star ALDEMAR KNOSSOS ROYAL (*****)
a) in triple rooms: 58 euros per person per day, full board included.
b) in double rooms: 65 euros per person per day, full board included.
c) in single rooms: 89 euros per person per day, full board included.
All prices include full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner with potable water daily) and all taxes.
6.3 Extra nights can be requested in advance and, upon availability, can be possible at a proportional cost. The deadline for registrations and bookings is 17th February 2020, together with a 30% deposit payment for the total cost of registration-accommodation. All remaining payments must be finalized upon arrival. Players will not be paired until all payments have been settled.
6.4 The FIDE entry fee of 70 € (blitz 35 € and rapid 35 €), if applicable, shall be paid directly to FIDE.

8. Titles and Prizes
8.1 Titles and Prizes for Players of each Playing Group (Open/Boys and Girls)
a) Title of World Champion for respective event + Cup + Gold Medal + Award Certificate (1st place).
b) Title of Vice World Champion for respective event + Cup + Silver Medal + Award Certificate (2nd place).
c) Cup + Bronze medal + Award Certificate (3rd place).
8.2 Each participant will also receive a certificate of participation.
9. Tournament Rules
The FIDE Tournament Rules and Laws of Chess should be followed for any other matter not mentioned in this invitation. National ratings will not be taken into consideration for pairings. Default time is 5 minutes.
10. Anti-Cheating guidelines
The FIDE Anti-Cheating rules and guidelines are valid for all Championships. Upon arrival or any time during the event, captains or players may be requested to present passports for verification of a player’s age eligibility.
11. Appeals procedure
Appeals Procedure Protests against decisions of the Chief Arbiter must be submitted in written form to the Chairman of the appeals committee within one hour after the completion of the respective game. The protest must be accompanied with the sum of 200 €, as a deposit. If the appeal is granted, the sum shall be returned immediately. If the appeal is refused, the deposit is forfeited to FIDE. The appeal has to be lodged by the player. The decisions of the Appeals Committee are final.
12. Visa information
Any federation members, players and accompanying persons who need a visa to enter Greece, are requested to contact the Organizer before the 17th February 2020. The organizer will provide invitations for visas only after the necessary payments are wired, as described in chapters (4) and (6) above. Schengen visas are valid in Greece.
13. Cretan Chess Festival 2020
The FIDE World Youth/Cadet Blitz & Rapid Championships are part of the “Cretan Chess Festival 2020”, together with the FIDE World Amateur Championships (2-12 April 2020) and the European School Championships (also 2-12 April 2020) in Crete. A unique opportunity for young players to combine two chess events in a beautiful island with only one airticket!
